Steadfast & Tragic Character Arcs Bundle

2 Writing Masterclasses (60 & 70 min.)

Mapping the Full Pattern (Rise and Fall) of Human Transformation in Character Arcs

Character arcs are stories of transformation... but transformation doesn't always move in the same direction.

In this two-class Character Arc Masterclass Bundle, we'll explore two fundamentally different relationships between character development and the story's thematic Truth:

The Flat Character Arc, in which a protagonist has already integrated the thematic Truth and must embody it to the world around them.
The three Negative Change Arcs, in which a character encounters the thematic Truth but ultimately moves deeper into deception.

In the class Flat Character Arcs: From Transformation to Integration, we'll break down the complete structure of the Flat Arc and explore why steadfast protagonists aren't stagnant. Instead, their challenge is to live the Truth they already know, even as it is tested—and to catalyze transformation in the characters and world around them.

Then, in the class Negative Character Arcs: The Hidden Pattern of Self-Deception, we'll examine the deeper progression connecting the Disillusionment, Fall, and Corruption Arcs, exploring how each dramatizes a different relationship between the thematic Truth, the Lie the Character Believes, and self-deception.

Together, these classes move beyond the familiar Positive Change Arc to explore what happens after a character encounters the Truth: Will they integrate it, resist it, or reject it?

If you want to write steadfast or tragic character arcs with greater structural precision, thematic depth, and psychological resonance, this bundle will give you the frameworks for understanding not only how these arcs work, but why.

In these two classes, you will learn:

In Flat Character Arcs: From Transformation to Integration (60 min):

Why Flat Character Arcs are about integration, not stagnation, and how this distinguishes them from Positive Change Arcs.
How to structure a Flat Arc from the Normal World through the First, Second, and Third Acts.
How the thematic Truth and the Lie the Character Believes function differently when your protagonist already understands the story’s central Truth.
How to write a Flat Arc protagonist who remains dynamic, vulnerable, and capable of growth without fundamentally changing worldview.
How the protagonist functions as an Impact Character, catalyzing transformation in supporting characters and the surrounding world.
How antagonistic forces test the protagonist’s Truth to create meaningful inner and outer conflict.
How Flat Arcs fit into the larger developmental cycle of transformation, integration, and embodiment.

**In Negative Character Arcs: The Hidden Pattern of Self-Deception (70 min.):**

How the Disillusionment, Fall, and Corruption Arcs function as three distinct types of Negative Character Arc—and how they connect as stages within a larger pattern of devolution.
Why the Disillusionment Arc is closely related to the Positive Change Arc, and how a character's encounter with a thematic Truth can become the pivot toward either further growth or further descent.
How the Lie the Character Believes evolves differently in each Negative Arc and determines the character's ultimate relationship with the thematic Truth.
How to structure each of the three Negative Arcs beat by beat, from the Hook through the Climax and Resolution.
How major structural moments such as the Inciting Event, First Plot Point, and Midpoint reveal and escalate the character’s tragic transformation.
How to integrate plot, character arc, and theme so the external conflict creates meaningful consequences for the character's increasingly distorted choices.
How to recognize the deeper pattern of self-deception underlying Negative Arcs, so you can write antiheroic transformations that feel psychologically convincing, thematically resonant, and structurally complete.
